ACADEMIC FOLK-DANCE GROUP "ŠTUDENT"
Academic folkl-dance group "Študent" began with its work in the year 1964 and was also the founding member of the Cultural Art Association "Študent" Maribor. Until the independence of Slovenia we danced the dances of all the Yugoslav regions. After this political event we focused our work on studyng and setting up the choreographies of Slovene regions.
With our quality work we recieved two prestigious awards: The golden plate of The Association of Cultural Organizations in Maribor and the Golden plate "France Marolt" for folklore activities, wich is also the highest award that can be won in Slovenia for this activity.
We have to mention our quality work and work in cooperation with Mrs. Marija Makarovič in making new folklore garments. Today we have the sets of folklore garments of almost all Slovenian regions.
For our quality work we are vey grateful to mister Vasja Samec, who has been with us as our artistic leader since the year 1974. Since the independence, he has made coreographies for dances of Slovenian regions. For his work he has been awarded two Golden badgas of The Association of Cultural Organizations in Maribor and a special badge of the Republic of Slovenia. Last season he was also awarded a chancellr'r recognition as an external associate to the University in Maribor.
Our young ones are taken care by our experienced dancers and trainers, Ms. Tatjana Gorjup and Mr. Rastko Samec.
We also represent our work in the world. In the years of our work, we have taken our rich cultural heritage all araund the world; Europe, The Americas, Asia and Australia. We have been enriching our calling in festivals in Austria, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Turkey, Canada, Israel, Hungary, Greece, Denmark, Sweden, Macao, Puerto Rico, Macedonia, Yugoslavia, Australia, Peru, Portugal and in Japan, where we took part on the second CIOFF World Folkloriada.
In the Year 2002 we have also founded a group of folk singers, which is built from our former female dancers and is being leaded under the hand and eye of Ms. Ana Smej. The programme of the folk - songs was and still is being prepared by Mr. Drago Kunej, who is making resarches about folk singing on Music Institute of Slovenia.
Our group is also a coproducer of the Internatiiona Folclore festival FOLKART which is being organized since 1989 and is a part of a multicultural Festival Lent in Maribor. Folkart is a also a member of CIOFF festivals.
